Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum
A Brief History of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum The Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum is a history museum located in downtown Colorado Springs. The museum was founded in 1893 by the El Paso County Historical Society. It is the oldest continuously operating museum in the state of Colorado.
The museum's collections focus on the history of the Pikes Peak region, with an emphasis on the Pike's Peak Gold Rush of 1859. The museum also has a large collection of Native American artifacts. The museum is housed in a historic building that was once a United States Post Office.
The Main Attractions - One of the most popular attractions at the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum is the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad Exhibit. This exhibit features a life-size replica of a narrow gauge locomotive that was used in the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company. The exhibit also includes a model of the Cripple Creek & Victor Railroad, which operated from 1894 to 1908.
Another popular exhibit at the museum is the 1893 El Paso County Courthouse Exhibit. This exhibit features a replica of the El Paso County Courthouse, which was built in 1893 and served as the county courthouse until 1954. The exhibit also includes replicas of some of the courtroom furniture and equipment that was used in the courthouse during its early years.
The third most popular exhibit at the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum is the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers Exhibit. This exhibit features artifacts and information about the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers, who were a warrior society of the Cheyenne tribe.
